Descripción : During the pregnancy process the participation of proinflammatory cytokines such as IL-1, TNF-α and IL-6 has been involved mainly during implantation and delivery. IL-36 cytokines (IL-36-α, -β, -γ, Ra (antagonist)) and the receptor IL-36R has been related to inflammatory disorders but so far it is unknown if they participate in the normal pregnancy success. We seek the IL-36 expression profile in uterus of non-pregnant and pregnant mice at different stages of hormonal cycle, implantation, fetal development, labor, as well as postdelivery. We found that IL-36 (α, β and γ) and IL-36R are expressed along the estrous cycle and during pregnancy, and considering IL-36 expression at diestrus as basal, the highest expression of IL-36 (α, β and γ) and IL-36R occurred at the estrus stage and during labor. IL-36 (α, β, γ and Ra) decreased to basal levels at post-labor. We did histological analysis and we found that IL-36 (α, β, γ and Ra) and their receptor are located mainly in the endometrium. Finally, we used an infection model with L. monocytogenes finding that it induced the overexpression of IL-36 (α, β and γ) and IL-36R at the implantation period. IL-36Ra was mainly expressed in the last days of implantation period. Our results give evidence, for the first time, of the differential expression of IL-36 (α, β, γ and Ra) and their histological location in uteri tissues of non-pregnant, healthy pregnant and infected pregnant mice.
